Q&A With Cassidy Myatt!

When did your cheerleading journey begin?

I was in gymnastics in kindergarten and my favorite tumbling coach was also a cheer coach for the mini one team at Cheer United. I walked in the gym and saw him coaching and immediately ran out to him. He picked me up, asked me if I wanted to try cheerleading and put me in a stunt. I fell in love with the sport without even knowing it and there was no going back after that.

Where have you cheered?

  • Cheer United
  • Prodigy Allstars
  • Woodlands Elite
I was in sixth grade I moved to Woodlands Elite. My first year at Woodlands I was on Colonels, the Junior 5 team. The following season in 2011 I made Generals and will be ending my all-star cheerleading career with them in 2017.

Let's talk titles!

I have won 6 NCA championship titles, 5 of which are consecutive with the Generals from 2013-2017. I won The MAJORS in Indianapolis for the first time in 2017. I've also won a Bronze, Silver, and Gold medal at The Cheerleading Worlds.

Do you have a signature stunt or tumbling pass?

My signature stunt is a double up, double down. My favorite tumbling pass which I have competed all 6 years on Generals is a 1 1/2 step out through to whip double.

How do you stay healthy during your competition travel and strenuous practice schedule?

As the practices kick up and I start to live out of a suitcase, my body as well as my mind gets pretty exhausted. I take care of my body by icing anything that is hurting. I also take a lot of baths using bath bombs and Dr. Teal's relax and relief Epsom salt bath soak. During this time of extreme training I try to make sure I am eating foods that will fuel and strengthen my body such as fruits, protein and lots of water.

Competing at The Cheerleading Worlds in an experience like no other, talk us through the weekend and the intense atmosphere as an athlete.

The day before we compete we usually have a practice at our hotel just to run sections and get a few reps in. The practice is mainly to start getting our minds ready for the weekend. On the day of competition, we meet two hours before our warm-up time. We use this time to get stretched, do a few walk throughs, get focused and begin our competition day rituals.

That night, after we receive our scoresheets back we have a team meeting to discuss scores, placements and ways we can improve on day two. The next day, the process repeats and we take the mat knowing that we have done all we can do to prepare for this moment.

How have you and the Generals been preparing for Worlds?

To prepare for worlds, Generals have begun "Worlds training". Our Worlds warm up begins in pre-warm up. We do one round of 5-4-3-2-1s and stretch after that.  We then move on to a 12-minute warm up, just like we will get at Worlds. During this 12-minutes we warm up all our stunts and tumbling. After the 12 minutes is up, we go outside the gym to pray and do all our pre-performance rituals. When we're finished, we walk back in the gym and do our full out. We try to make our practices just like what we will do at Worlds so that when we get there we are comfortable, and feel like it's just another day in the gym.

Do you have any traditions heading into Worlds?

As a team, Generals is full of many superstitions. I have a unique handshake or little saying with over half of the people on my team, including both of my coaches. We do our rituals with each other in the exact same order every time. I also lead the team in prayer before every full out. Heading into Worlds, Coach Kevin will have my stress ball, stress relief hand sanitizer and energy drink packed in his backpack ready to take on the weekend.

What are your plans for college and do you have any future goals in the cheerleading world?

I am a senior in high school. Next year for college I plan to attend the University of Kentucky and major in Kinesiology. From there I will move on to obtain my doctorates degree and practice Physical Therapy.

Since I was 6 years old I have dreamed of being a cheerleader at the University of Kentucky. Next year, I will hopefully get to turn my dreams into reality.
