Mentally Reset For Day Two Of Competition
Every all star team dreams of getting two flawless hit zeros at every competition. But no matter how hard or long you practice, some days that perfect hit just doesn't happen. A stunt fall or a tumbling bust on day one can put a damper on the spirits of your team.

But day two is a new day with a new chance at that perfect hit. At most all star cheerleading competitions, your squad's day one score only accounts for 25 percent of your final score. With day two making up 75 percent of your end score, it's important to be able to pick yourselves up and start mentally fresh before you take the mat for a second time.

Help your team get back on their feet and ready to hit zero on day two with these mental reset tips!

Don't Dwell On The Mistakes

What's done is done and you can't change anything now, so don't dwell on the past! Talk over mistakes as a team, find out what went wrong, discuss how you will fix it tomorrow, and move on. Don't assign blame or be negative; mistakes help you learn and grow. Pick yourselves back up and let's get ready for day two!

Practice Makes Perfect

The fear of falling will keep you from succeeding. You don't want to step onto the mat on day two with any fear. Once you have gotten back into a positive mindset, practice the tumbling skill or stunt sequence until you feel comfortable hitting it 10/10. By competition time, you should practice each skill in the routine enough to have built up a muscle memory. Refocus your attention on that skill and you will feel better in no time.

If the skill isn't clicking that evening, don't stress and just leave it be. Come back to it in the morning with a positive attitude and you will see better results.

Have Some Fun With Your Team!

Teams perform better when each athlete on the mat feels supported by the next. Help grow your team bond by going to dinner together, enjoying a fun outing at a mini golf course, or relaxing with an in-room spa night.

It's A New Day!

Erase the day one performance from your mind and start fresh with a positive attitude. Remember, competing is what you love to do -- so get back out there and show the judges that you are much more than your day one score.
