World Champion's 5 Tips To Performance Success

National and world champion Tucker Hunter cheered at Oklahoma State University and recently snagged another title as a member of Team USA at the ICU World Cheerleading Championships in April. He's got a lot of bling to show for his incredible tumbling and stunting skills, so of course, we want to know his secrets to success...

Tucker Hunter's 5 Tips To Performance Success:

1. DIET
Most cheerleaders are busy with work, school, practices, competitions/games, etc., so diet is usually the last thing on the brain. Maintaining a balanced diet and making sure you're fueled going into a practice or competition is a top priority. Wake up early and make sure your body is prepared and you're eating clean close to go time. You will feel the difference in your body and performance.

2. STRETCH & WARM UP
I've definitely found that this is very important as you start getting into elite skills and longer practices. Be sure to set up warmup exercises, movements, and stretches that you do before every practice. Don't skip this, even if you're running late. Warming up can help prevent injury and help you peak during practice. The last thing you want to do is to try your stunts full out without getting your body ready for that type of movement. You'll be much more successful and prevent missed stunts early on in practice if you make a good stretch and warmup a habit.

3. H20
Drink plenty of water throughout the day and during practice. It is so good for you, and your body needs it to function at its best. I try to drink multiple large water bottles throughout the day before I head to practice so my muscles are hydrated and ready to go.

4. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY
In cheerleading we are so used to pushing our bodies to do certain things and through the pain that sometimes we can take it too far. It's important to know your limits and listen to your body and communicate with your coach so you don't put yourself in bad situations and risk injury.

5. CONTINUE TO LEARN
One thing I love about cheer is that there is always more to learn and room for improvement. I am lucky to be surrounded by amazing athletes and coaches, and I try to soak up as much knowledge as I can from them every time I am in the gym.
