Jonathan Jackson Announced As New Head Coach of TVCC Cheer

Jonathan "JJ" Jackson is heading home! The Trinity Valley Community College cheer team announced the news of their new head coach on Aug. 22. Jackson is a proud alumni of the Trinity Valley Community College cheer team, competing with the Cards from 2016 to 2018. Jackson helped TVCC capture back-to-back National Championships at NCA College Nationals in 2016 & 2017.

"Where to start? it’s almost indescribable and leaves me speechless," Jackson said. "A full circle moment, coming back to where it all started for me."

After graduating from TVCC, Jackson went on to cheer at Texas Tech University where he won another National Championship in 2019.

Jackson comes to TVCC after most recently serving as the Assistant Director of Spirit and Fan Engagement at Mississippi State University. Jackson helped the program make history by winning two National Championships for the first time ever this last season at NCA & NDA College Nationals.

Jackson says he has so many people to thank, especially one of his mentors who inspired him from the start.

"One of the main reasons I decided to get into the coaching world was because of a man named Khris Franklin, who took a chance on me coming to TVCC. I want to start off by saying how much I owe this man, and I hope that I make him proud in the new role that he has trusted upon me and I’m blessed to be working along side my mentor," Jackson said.

When thinking of Trinity Valley Community College cheer, Jackson says he immediately thinks of the rich history & tradition. He knows firsthand that the Advanced Large Coed Community College division is very difficult & full of talent, but he is ready for the challenge.

"I’m excited to be back at a place that I call home. Excited to be back with the family that started it all for me. I know that there is a history of legacy and tradition at this school, so I have some very big shoes to fill. However, I am extremely honored and grateful for this opportunity. This is the toughest division in cheerleading and it’s going to take being at my best every day to try and get ahead. That's why I appreciate the position that I’m in because I get to work with and encourage the best around me while also competing against the best," said Jackson.

Jackson has been through the journey himself, putting in the hard work to be where he is today. He hopes to showcase that hard work pays off, and hopes to leave a lasting impact on his athletes.

"The Valley is rich in culture and tradition, and I want to keep that alive and flourishing. I want to promote hard work and show athletes that there’s more to their abilities than they thought was possible as someone who started from the bottom and had to climb all the way to where I am now. I hope that I am able to touch lives and help those that come through the program now and in the future, while paying homage to the alumni who came before me and make them proud of the program," Jackson said.

When reflecting back on his own journey, Jackson says he can't help but smile and be proud of where he is now and the opportunity that is at hand.

"I’m not big on getting too emotional, but just knowing the work it took to get here...younger me would be proud," Jackson said. "But now the celebration is over and it’s time to go to work! CCFC!"
