Studio Spotlight September: Meet Portal Dance Lab

FloDance is shining light on incredible All Star dance programs that help elevate the All Star space and build champion athletes on and off the floor. The final Studio Spotlight September program is Portal Dance Lab, a studio heading into season two with their eyes on the prize!

The Story of Portal Dance Lab:

"My husband and I have been long time dancers in the Houston Community and SoCal area! We were first exposed to All Star dance six years ago directing for a studio and fell in love! We now own and direct our own studio and teams while working with the community. Last year, we created the Portal Grant that provides college grants for our senior graduating dancers.

Our story started in the winter of 2023, when we rented a studio in Houston to hold once a month classes and travel from Dallas. Building our students and training for fun! After much deliberation, we decided to move back from Dallas to Houston to start our dream.

In our first season, all four of our hip hop teams bid to Dance Worlds and Dance Summit, where our Junior Small placed 3rd. We are preparing for season two and look forward to joining All Star dance for another successful season!

We are called Portal Dance Lab because my husband and I both have long time dancers connections on the east and west coast. We use our studio as a portal to both worlds and bring instructors in for the Richmond community."

Fun Facts about Portal Dance Lab:

At our first competition ever, Encore Houston, we placed 1st for both our Junior and Senior teams
Our Junior team received a Paid bid
Our Senior team received an At Large bid

Portal Dance Lab In Action:

FloDance congratulates Portal Dance Lab on an exciting start to their new journey in the All Star dance space. When asked what they're most looking forward to, they said: "We are looking to return back to Dance Summit and Dance Worlds this year. Our goal is always to have fun but the bar is set! We must return back and be better than before!"
