IT STARTS SOMEWHERE!
The easiest traditions to build are based on the basic flow of how things have happened in the past. Think about how the pep rallies have started for the last few years. Then, create a way to start the pep rally that will build on the idea of how they have started before but will add an interesting twist. It may only be a subtle change but, if it adds to the experience then it is worth the effort.

Use traditional tools to help lead the crowd. Develop plans to cheer in particular places at particular times. Spend time learning the traditions of your school. Then, analyze, evaluate, and improve upon those traditions. Build a policy for events as they occur to make things easier in the future.

Include every aspect of your game day prep to make it easy for your team to comply. Set specific directions for places to meet, warm-up, safety, and practicing. Get your team in the mind-frame of directing and involving the fans.

Consider traditions that happen every year. Things like Homecoming, pep rallies, parades and bon fires are usually established . planning is the key to a successful, stress free event at many levels.

IMPLEMENT THE TOOLS TO LEAD FANS!
Your team should know where, when, and how to support your team. This will only happen as a result of proper training and direction. It is just as important to teach them when and where to cheer at the game. Make sure they understand what to do during defensive and offensive periods in the game and that they have role-played similar scenarios at practice. Make sure to cover important norms such as no stunting when the ball is in play, or taking a knee and not cheering when there is an injury on the field. This will help them be successful leaders to the fans in the stands.

UTILIZE THE VETERAN EXPERIENCE!



Have the veteran cheerleaders with experience train the new cheerleaders. Brainstorm with the leaders and ask for suggestions that would make the experience better for the team. Encourage each of your veterans leave their own mark or influence on the team. A program is successful when the members all contribute to building the legacy.
