5 Ways To Put Some Pep In Your Cheer Step

Do you ever wake up and not feel like your usual cheery self? Turn that frown upside down with these five life-changing tips!

Just breathe

No, seriously--anxiety and stress are linked to shallow breathing. By breathing deeper and more slowly, you can improve your nervous system, boost your energy levels and relax your mind. Many yoga practices focus on the art of breathing, but you don't have to drop into a class to learn. Every morning, take 5-10 deep breaths to start your day on the right side of the bed.

Get more sleep

A tired person is a cranky person. If you don't get enough sleep, you can risk your happiness and health. Lack of sleep also increases your chance of illness, because it weakens your immune system. For optimal health and happiness, doctors suggest seven to eight hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. So activate the "Do not disturb" feature on your smartphone!

Be mindful

You can enjoy your life more by taking the time to savor the good stuff: acing a test or completing a difficult tumbling pass, enjoying your favorite food for lunch, or reading a text that made you smile. Practice the appreciation of in-the-moment happiness. Life happens fast, but by taking time to enjoy the small joys, you may improve your overall attitude!

Be a giver

When you give something to someone or do a good deed, the receiver is obviously thrilled, but what most don't realize is the giver benefits the most. By being kind, people feel more connected, less stressed and happier. Interested? Check out the science of being a giver.

Do something that makes you happy

Life is better when you love what you're doing. After school or work, make time for a hobby or activity you enjoy, whether it's working out, reading or experiencing the great outdoors. Don't let your happiness fall to the wayside--if you don't have time, MAKE time. You'll be glad you did.
