8 Ways To Focus In The Practice Room
8 Ways To Focus In The Practice Room
With competition season upon us, here are eight tips to lead you to a successful warmup while focusing in the practice room!

Competition is intimidating enough as it is, but when you add in the practice room surrounded by 20 teams you've never seen before, the jitters get real, real quick. Get your team mentally prepared to compete as soon as you enter the practice room with these eight helpful tips.
1. Save the side conversations for later
Let your coach do the talking. Chatting with your friends will distract both you and your teammates. Let your coach give instructions and chat after warmups.
2. Keep your cell phone in your bag.
When you're getting ready to compete, leave your phone in your bag, and bring your mental game with you! Focus on the moments in front of you, not the distraction of technology.
3. Only focus on what your team is doing.
We've all entered the practice room, seen a team we've admired, and couldn't keep our eyes off them. Admit it . . . we've all done it! Break that bad habit and only focus on what is happening on your mat. That's what matters most during those pre-competition moments!
4. Have fun.
It's always important to have fun when you perform. Find your team's practice room mojo whether it's a song to play while you warmup tumbling or just cheering each other on as you warm up your skills. You're more likely to have a successful warmup if you are having a good time along the way.
5. Keep calm.
Performing can be stressful, but keeping your cool in the practice room is a key to success while you're warming up. Take a deep breath, and think about what are doing. Start associating the practice room with your zen and team time.
6. Push yourself.
Remember, it's only a warmup. You just want to get your body moving and the energy flowing. Although you shouldn't spend your time running multiple full outs, you still need to push yourself to hit your skills the correct way and warm them up until you feel confident.
7. Take it one step at a time.
As cheerleaders, we tend to perform our routines and always think about what is happening next. Use your practice room time to isolate each skill and focus on what you are doing in the moment.
8. Remember your goals.
Head into the practice room with confidence and determination. You are about to warm up to put all your hard work on the mat. Keep your goals in sight, and practice for success.
