San Antonio Spirit Is Ready To Smoke The Competition At Worlds
San Antonio Spirit is introducing their first ever Worlds-eligible squad, Team Smoke.
They say everything's bigger in Texas, but this San Antonio team is ready to use an extra small squad to showcase their talents in a Texas-sized performance.
Gym owners Nicole and Carlos Cortes opened the doors of San Antonio Spirit in June 2015, and as they enter their third season the coaches are now ready to take their gym's talent to the next level.

Since opening, San Antonio Spirit has won three NCA All-Star National titles, one in their first season and two in 2017. In 2015, SA Spirit's Junior Restricted Level 5 team won the D2 Summit. Last year, SA Spirit took three teams to compete at the Summit; all three squads made finals and one finished as high as third.
San Antonio Spirit decided to enter in to the XSmall Coed division for their first trip to the Cheerleading World Championship because the number of athletes meeting the skill requirements fell perfectly in the new divisions numbers. Owner and coach Nicole Cortes told FloCheer that Team Smoke will compete for their world's bid in December at the Encore Championships in Houston.
We are looking forward to the opportunity to debut our first worlds team the inaugural year for this division.
San Antonio Spirit is ready to take on the world, and they won't go down without a fight.
Team Smoke athletes are in the gym five to eight hours a week, scheduling additional tumbling workouts along with team practices twice a week. They are making sure their bodies are worlds-ready through conditioning twice a week, including run workouts and core and strength training.
"Our goal is to hit clean routines and not make mistakes to the best of our ability this season," Cortes said. "But Team Smoke has made it a goal to work together and constantly motivate one another every time they hit the mat. Another goal is just to represent our gym and our city well as our first time attending this event."

Nicole said Team Smoke's biggest challenge will be staying focused on delivering their best routine despite the prestigious reputation of the event.
Will Team Smoke make a big splash in their first World Championship debut? Stay tuned to FloCheer to find out!
