Walking through the practice room at USA All Star, I came across a high-spirited team with something I couldn't quite make out pinned in their hair. As I made my way closer to their mat, I saw a small, sparkly ribbon in each girl's up-do.

I approached the coaches and was greeted with warm smiles and a sweet story about the hairpiece. The program was Pacific Coast Magic, and the team an L3 International Junior team called Rogue.

Their routine this season is dedicated to one of the athlete's mothers, who's battling cancer. Her name is Laurie, and she and her daughter Katherine have been very dedicated and supportive members of the gym for years, so the dedication routine just seemed a fit.

I watched the team finish their warm up and head toward the performance floor, wishing them well and hoping for the best—on the mat and in their lives. It was a feel-good moment, watching a team dedicate a performance to something more than a trophy.

If you have the opportunity to see them perform this year, watch for the end of the routine where they reveal their "LAURIE'S ARMY" banner, and know it's for someone special.
