The Hip Hop categories at The Dance Worlds not only bring the most international presence, but it’s the largest competition of all the categories with seven different divisions.

What makes this category so interesting is the movement and technique of various Hip Hop styles being executed from a wide variety of dancers with different dance backgrounds. The music is exciting and trendy which caters to almost any audience. There is no doubt the venues will have full and engaged audience members when these talented Hip Hop teams take the floor April 28-30 in Orlando, Florida.

Judges are always looking for great execution and appeal, but this year—and more than ever—it’s the movement technique and strength that can set teams apart from the rest.

Coaches and choreographers alike have taken this note and crafted some show-stopping routines for the Worlds stage. Get ready to see the unique and engaging movement in each routine plus awesome tricks and expression.

Of all the Senior Hip Hop divisions, Senior Small Hip Hop brings some of the toughest competition. This is the largest division represented in the category and will bring some wild routines to the Coronado Springs stage. We caught up with Midwest Cheer Elite Cleveland’s coach, Ryhannon Haase-Johnston, and she agrees that this is the division to look out for!

“Senior Small Hip Hop is fierce this season. I honestly don’t know which way this category will go with how talented each team is," Haase-Johnston said.

Midwest Cheer Elite’s Senior Small team Lady Ice Crew is performing to a single song and plans to “push the envelope,” as Hasse-Johnston says, and, hopefully, send them into the finals.

Last year, Legendary Athletics took home the gold in Senior Small Hip Hop with a powerhouse routine. The strength behind their motions and the solid definition of their style helped earn them the win. We should expect no less from Legendary again this year.

Fun Fact: Legendary Athletics represented USA as the first-ever U.S. National Junior Hip Hop team and took gold at ICU in 2017!

Champion Legacy is another team to watch in the Senior Small Hip Hop Division. In 2017, these ladies were pulling off full team tricks with nonstop energy to earn them the silver medal. We think the success of their routine last year will have them ready to move into the top spot in 2018.

DSF All Stars from Japan always has a classic groove when they come to Worlds, and you can catch them bringing traditional hip hop styles into their routines like locking. Look out for all teams from Japan this year as they are consistent with top-10 success year after year.

From the USA, Dollhouse Dance Factory is an Open team to watch representing the red, white, and blue. They took home fourth place last year and have accepted their bid to compete again in 2018!

Hip Hop requires so much strength and skill to impress the internationally known Dance World judges. It’s all about who brings every ounce of energy and training to the stage, and, of course, pure entertainment.
