24 Hours On A Plane & Southern Cross Cheer Has Arrived At Worlds
After a 24-hour plane ride, Southern Cross Cheer Legacy from Melbourne, Australia has finally arrived at The Cheerleading Worlds 2018.

After a 24-hour plane ride, Southern Cross Cheer Legacy from Melbourne, Australia has finally arrived at The Cheerleading Worlds 2018 and they couldn’t be more excited.
The International Open Large Coed 6 team was created in 2012 and has since helped forge the way for Level 6 teams in Australia. The team has now made the journey to Worlds three times and is excited to return again in 2018, as the first Australian Full Paid Worlds Bid recipient.

SCC’s first trip to Orlando for Worlds was something they will never forget.
“We had no prior Worlds experience from any of our competing athletes and went into the event with no expectations other than to put our best performance on the floor,” SCC Owner & Coach Eddie Davey explained. “That year we placed 12th. However, the experiences our athletes and coach gained were invaluable. Upon our return to Australia, we were full of dreams and went about setting goals to improve ourselves in all facets of the sport.”
“Our first trip really opened our eyes, not only to the fast pace and high quality that the best teams displayed but also how the competition enabled clubs and teams from across the globe to connect and share their love for the sport.”
Since Legacy’s first trip, the program has continued to improve taking a spot on the podium in 2016 with silver and again in 2017 with bronze.

Even with their championship success, earning a globe at Worlds has been no easy task for this Australian team. “We only get to compete against 1-2 teams a year in Australia in Level 6, so the opportunity to compete at Worlds in a division of 20+ teams allows the team the to push themselves to their greatest potential,” Davey explained. “It allows us to see how far we have progressed from season to season, especially in such a high-pressure environment. It also allows us to connect with the international cheer community and make lots of new friends from all over the globe.”
The program earned their Paid Bid in late November which is at the end of the Australian competition season. The team started back up their training in January, so it’s been a challenge to craft a Worlds-ready routine in less than three months. “Working out the best routine combination for us, that we can perform confidently, is by far the major challenge we see in our lead up to Worlds,” Davey added.
“We want to show the world how hard we have been working to continually evolve our skill set and team bond that we have created, by putting a solid HIT on the floor at Worlds.”
With two globes back home in Australia, Legacy hopes their successful streak at Worlds will continue in 2018. “Our main goal is to be able to perform our routine on both days, sharply, with no deductions. If we can do this, we will return from Worlds very happy with what we have achieved,” Davey said.

Making friends and connecting with the international cheerleading community is a highlight of the team's trip year after year. “If you see Legacy competing, please scream as loud as you can for us! We would love your support,” added Davey.
