Two Become One: Luxe Cheer

We've had the opportunity to get to know some amazing gyms from all over the country for Small Gym September, and we can’t wait to introduce you to our next program!

Small Gym September has a new meaning to Luxe Cheer out of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The gym was founded in 2014 when two even smaller gyms were combined together to create one strong program. Along with Kyong & Amber Chong, Luxe Cheer Co-owner Cathryn Weeden was motivated to better the kids in the community and help them reach the next level.

“Our gyms came together because we believed that our programs not only would complement each other,” Weeden said, “but that we would help strengthen each other. We wanted our kids to compete on the worlds biggest stages, in our logos and uniforms.”

“On our own, having a worlds team was just a dream. Together it was a reality.”

This season, Luxe Cheer has consolidated to six teams.

“They are the biggest teams we’ve had ever,” Weeden said. “And we have really been able to quality control our product with less routines to focus on.”

2018-2019 Luxe Cheer Teams

Royal Girls – Tiny Showteam

Tiny Tiaras – Tiny Prep

Royalty – Youth Level 2

Legacy – Junior Level 4

Throne5 – Medium Senior Restricted Level 5

Lady Legends – Extra Small Senior Level 5

Luxe Cheer has experienced quite a few big milestones since the merge of the two programs. Over the past three years, the gym has earned ten At-Large and one Paid Bid to the D2 Summit and collected four At-Large bids to The Cheerleading Worlds! Weeden says for two years the gym searched for who Luxe Cheer really was, and in season three they found their true identity!

“By season three we knew who we were, a family friendly and competitive athletic program that focuses on the athlete’s personal, emotional and physical development,” Weeden said.

“We have high expectations, but an even higher responsibility to create great little people.”

Luxe Cheer switched divisions for the 2018 Cheerleading Worlds and took on the first ever Extra Small division with Lady Legends. The jump from an open coed team to an Extra Small Level 5 team was huge! They went from college-aged boys on the team to a Senior All Girl team.

“There would have been a good chance that we might have sat worlds out last season had XS not opened,” Weeden said.

After the announcement of the Extra Small division debut was made, they immediately made some quick decisions.

“We jumped two feet first into the division,” Weeden said. “All but five on the team came from Junior Level 4 immediately to XSS5. Though we were young, those Junior Level 4 kids had been extremely successful the season before, winning NCA and D2 Summit.”

We can expect great things from Luxe Cheer this season! When it comes to choreography, they are stepping out of their comfort zone for the first time and going for something new.

"We are putting more layered, aggressive and more skill risky routines on the floor,” Weeden said. “We are ramping up our showmanship and focusing on creating routines that move and entertain for a full two minutes and 30 seconds.”

Luxe Cheer also plans to attend more local competitions inside of Tulsa this season! After talking to Weeden, the teams know their strengths and weaknesses and they plan to continue to better themselves throughout the year.
