Cheer Athletics Encourages Gyms To Take Extra Precautions For COVID-19

While many All Star gyms are starting to open back up for practice, Cheer Athletics Plano is taking a few steps back and closing their doors for two weeks after receiving a notification on June 18, 2020 that some staff and athletes had tested positive for COVID-19.

The gym's owners are now urging other All Star gym's to take a second look at the precautions and procedures they are implementing to stop the spread of COVID-19 in their community.

CA Plano Owner's Angela Rodgers, Jody Melton, and Brad Habermel put out a Youtube video on June 22, 2020, to address the situation in their gym and discuss their plan of action moving forward.

"We realize that while this percentage is still really low within our population, within our program, any case really is too high." - Angela Rodgers.

In the video, the owner's discussed how they were following the state's guidelines but even with all of their precautions, a handful of cases did arise within their gym. The owners were transparent in saying that they did begin to relax guidelines as time went on but they have shut down for the next two weeks to try and get the situation under control.

Moving forward Cheer Athletics is going to require athletes to wear masks at all times during practice and the staff will work with medical professionals to educate the athletes and their families on proper mask procedures and fit.

Jody Melton encouraged other All Star gyms and youth sports organizations to be more cautious moving forward and to even be more strict than what their state legislature is allowing.

"I think it may be best to even be more restrictive than that," Melton explained in the video. "If they allow for closer contact and losing the masks, it might be a good idea to just keep those masks on and keep that going for a while until we get a little further in and a little better advice from the medical community."

"I would encourage everybody, cheer gyms, other gyms, youth sports, please do not get complacent and try to make sure you are following all the guidelines and keep those masks on and do even more than you feel like you should. Just do not let your guard down, please." - Jody Melton
