Get ready for the most exciting event of the season. The Dance Worlds 2022 is almost here and we are on the edge of our seats waiting for the most talented teams to take the stage!

FloCheer is going to break down every division at The Dance Worlds so that you will know what to expect in Orlando, Florida.

Open Contemporary/Lyrical


Division History 

If you are coming to The Dance Worlds 2022 to find stunningly beautiful dancing, then look no further than the Open Contemporary/Lyrical division.

If you have ever been moved to feel extreme emotional highs or lows simply by watching a dance routine, chances are you were watching a routine in this category. The Contemporary/Lyrical division is known for having the most emotion-driven concepts, choreography, and performances. This year at The Dance Worlds, there will be no shortage of fabulous teams in this category bringing everything they’ve got to the stage to earn the crown.

In 2019, 25 teams competed in the Open Lyrical division which made the competition extremely tough. The Vision Dance Center took home gold that year and with the cancellation of The Dance Worlds 2020, no one knew who would come out on top in 2021.

Seven teams ended up making the trip to Orlando, Florida to compete in the Open Lyrical division in 2021, all vying to conquer the stage and bring home a Dance World Championship title! Dance Dynamics, Dancin Bluebonnets, and Cheerforce Arizona earned a spot on the podium and took home the top three spots.

GOLD: Dance Dynamics

Final Score: 94.2

Dance Dynamics is a powerhouse in the Jazz and Lyrical divisions and their routines always feature lots of strong emotion and beautiful moments throughout their performances. After coming in second in 2019 the team really worked on connecting to the storyline of their dances. Dance Dynamics portrayed strong synchronization that made them look like one unit when hitting the floor which in turn earned them the gold and a final score of 94.2.

SILVER: Dancin Bluebonnets 

Final Score: 92.7

Following behind in second place, their long-time competitors from just down the road, the Dancin Bluebonnets. The team displayed eye-catching partner work that flowed throughout their routine. the Bluebonnets routine featured strong individual choreography that flowed into their full team moments keeping the crowd engaged throughout their entire performance.

BRONZE: DanceForce Arizona - Aces

Final Score: 90.7

From the timing of their turn sequences to their beautiful display of flexibility and technique, DanceForce Arizona delivered an eye-catching routine that earned them the final score of 90.7 and the final spot on the podium for the Open Lyrical division.

2021 - 2022 Season Recap


Here’s a look back at some of the winners from the Open Lyrical division from this season's major events! Will these teams medal at The Dance Worlds 2022? We can’t wait to watch these incredible teams take the stage!

WSF Louisville Grand Nationals

The Vision Dance Center

The Vision Dance Center started the season in their home state with a big win at the 2021 WSF Louisville Grand Nationals. The Kentucky team displayed a breathtaking routine that involved lots of synchronized turn sequences and jaw-dropping flexibility earning them a final score of 87.8938.

NDA All-Star National Championship

Dancin Bluebonnets

The Dancin Bluebonnets delivered two zero deduction routines at the 2022 NDA All-Star National Championship in Grapevine, Texas. The team finished the weekend by taking the top spot with a 92.285. 

Star Steppers Dance claimed second place and in third was your reigning Open Lyrical World Champions, Dance Dynamics. 

JAMfest Dance Super Nationals

The Vision Dance Center

Two teams competed in the Open Lyrical division at the 2022 JAMfest Dance Super Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky. Of the two, The Vision Dance Center came out on top with a final score of 90.3313 after performing yet another beautiful routine. Following The Vision Dance Center was Starlites Dance Skippers Open Elite.

Semi-Finals for the Open Lyrical division will take place on Sunday, April 24th starting at 3:00 PM ET with Finals taking place on Monday, April 25th.
